That... display, Dipper's a bit hesitant to approach Jake (and Dirk, who is probably his shadow), but then again-- he said he'd wanted to talk, and maybe it'd get his mind off of... disembowelment, which wowie is Dipper trying to not Think about that, like, at all. so. he gives the boy enough time to like wash out the blood probably (yikes? yikes) before going to find him]

Hey, Jake, um-- [should he mention the execution. let's not? let's not] you wanted to talk?

[dirk will get a little awkward half-wave of acknowledgement. wow dipper. super smooth. nailed it.]

Huh. Mine also said I might see "that which is hidden to the naked eye", but that's all it said. So I think if that was where we actually were, I'd see it no matter where I looked? I'm not sure. [huffs] Like I said. Completely unhelpful. I've been thinking of it as maybe a secret passageway. I dunno.

[on the fog:] I was going to do that this week. I tested it on locked doors last week, one that was unnamed on the map and one that was, then I checked out the, uh-- [hm] the electric room. To see if there had been a passageway there. [sorry for the dead dave reminder dirk] And before that I was just trying to guess what might be a hit. [he's looking very exasperated for some reason]

Dirk's been having trouble cooking up ideas for where to point his camera. I thought, well, maybe it might turn up something worthwhile if you combine these items and plot out where to use them together maybe?

[Though it sounds like possibly Dipper has not had much luck with seeing anything useful.]

There are a lot of dead ends.

[In an UNIMPRESSED MONOTONE] Taking pictures of people gives me jackshit but a new shot for their Facebook pages.

Yeah, I tried it on someone and on Craftly and got a whole lot of nothing.

I'm seconds away from pulling it out during the next execution just to check.

[Dipper oh my god. Jake flinches a little but he clears his throat to get over it.]

It really wouldn't be a bad idea to use it on the lake, but we only see it once a week.

[He's trying to think where else might be suspicious but it's the same wall he's run into trying to help Dirk.]

The locked and burnt buildings are a bit dangerous to suggest...

[dipper might play the paranoid but he's always eager to have friends partners in crime and it shows in how he's rocking on the balls of his feet as he brings out his rulebook to read off it. he clears his throat before reading it off:]

"1. The following rules are for your eyes only. The ink is invisible to those who surround you.
2. You have been granted a gift. Your item is a telescope.
3. Your item can be found under your bed. Do not worry about your roommate catching a glimpse of it, as the telescope is only visible to you and those who you willingly choose to reveal your role to.

5. We hope you are able to enjoy this gift."

[he shrugs helplessly after]

And then it stops working after I try it three times. It just goes dark. Like I said, they're pretty useless.

We got different things out of the Dark Room, so we might get different things out of other crap. I could try out the mirrors.

[huffs and then starts to count off on his fingers] Okay, so, the other stuff I tried it on so far... Craftly, one person, the toy machine and the electric room were a bust. The Dark Room had that trap door, there was the mirrors, I managed to see through the door to the mayor's office in City Hall, and the room between the kitchen and laundry's actually a curio shop. It looked like it was full of junk. That's all twelve things I tried out so far.

Aw, it's full of junk? [He knew it was a curio shop but now he's disappointed. He thought it would be like. Some majestic warehouse of secrets.]

I can't see through doors. [So there's that. He is still for a moment.

Do you think you can see into the Disposal Room? [To see what is done with the bodies.]

Honestly, dude, the common feature in all of those seems to be passages. Maybe it's a stretch for the mirrors, but they've been famously considered ways into other worlds.

It looked like a bunch of religious garbage. Um, gimme a second. [thank god dipper has drawing abilities so i can canonly have him show drawings to people constantly. even if it's cartoony versions of them.]

That's why I tried the mirrors in the first place. The lobby one seemed suspicious. [everything seems suspicious to dipper.] I can try the Disposal Room and the fog. They were on my list anyway.

[Cartoony Virgin Mary disappoints Jake but he nods.] I can't really see the relevance of that...

[Though that doesn't explain why it's not only locked up tight but also unlabeled?]

There was a strange thing in the building I went into but... [He is really not about to suggest anything less than a well-armed squad go into that building.] There's a locked room in the hunting lodge. The public archives in the city hall probably wouldn't turn up much without actually going in... The Game Room here in the motel is still an unknown. Umm... The rulebook mentions the sun in a weird way? Oh and it's... weird that the rulebook has so many blank pages.

[That seems to be everything he can think of, though.]

Taking pictures of the rule books have gotten me jack shit. [A pause.] It doesn't translate some of the gibberish, but apparently my weird tattoo from frog vomit says "Have a nice day."

No, that's my own demon. [a bit more personal than he'd told dirk, whoops] I don't know the one who we're in a ritual for, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were friends or related or even just acquaintances from across dimensions with Bill.

You said the symbol is roughly the same? The ones on Dirk don't look anything like that, though.

Language versus iconography, maybe. There were symbols, I think alchemical, on the wall of the non-burned lock buildin', but the camera didn't translate them.

No, um. [quickly scribbles out bill] That's Bill Cipher. He's a demon from the nightmare dimension. The symbol that looked like one from back home is the sign for this kid's "tent of telepathy", but I think he got it from Bill because of... stuff. It's a long story.

[he frowns in thought after that]
